This month has been exciting and ever changing. With and new dances and new songs we've learned we have been very busy!!
Kindergarten: We are wrapping up "What Makes Music," but will still be applying what we've learned about this to the rest of the year. I will keep their instruments! Thank you to those who brought in extra homemade instruments!
We will be serenading the 5th graders next week. They have been singing a song called "Best Friends," which most of them enjoy. They have also made a small valentine for each 5th grader.
First Grade: We have learned about how to say "Hello" in many different languages with our hello song. We also have sang a "Viva Valentine" song to help some writers learn how to spell "Valentine." We will be focusing on our concert after mid-winter break. Their concert will be on May 19th at Bingham Farms Elementary.
Second Grade: We have been having fun singing their concert songs learning new and different music. We discussed big and small beats this week. Some brave volunteers were able to jump to an entire song with micro and macro beats in and out of hula hoops with the rest of the class helping to keep the beats with clapping. We discussed where "Viva Valentine" might be from by listening to the instruments and style of music. We also were able to learn the dance!
Third Grade: Please remind your child if they have a recorder to keep bringing it to class! We spend a good 20 minutes with recorders. It is important to be responsible. If your student does not have one, please note that I am more than willing to open up some of my lunch for them to practice once a week!
Some of the third grade classes this week have learned the "Cotton Eyed-Joe" song. Great fun!
Fourth Grade: Many students are excited about our concert music. It is challenging but many students have heard the music through going to musicals or hearing it on television or radio. We have been having a blast with new choreography moves. I have asked them to make sure they are practicing their yellow belt, second degree song!!
Fifth grade: Jazz, jazz jazz! We are discussing prominent people in jazz and learning about scat. What makes the music different from other music? How did it start? Mr. Brownrig's students will be presenting their topics to the class next week. Mr. Arbaughs will follow. It's been great to see students motivated to do research on their topics. Nice work!
Thank you again. It is a pleasure to have your student once a week (if we're lucky two). Have a wonderful weekend!
