Good Morning Parents and Students!
This week we are getting ready for Friday's festivities as well of course, singing and performing wonderful music.
We are focusing our attention this week on major/minor, in a song called the "Witches Broom." It is a singing game and the students have fun with it.
In kindergarten, we sang a song about bats. We also discussed how and when they sleep.
Bats are sleeping
Bats are sleeping
Upside down, upside down.
Waiting for the night time
waiting for the night time,
then they fly around.
Then they fly around.
We will continue to discuss "Peter and the Wolf," next week as well as understanding steady beat.
First grade:
We are singing our Halloween songs as well as beginning a unit on high/low sounds. We will be discussing voices and objects that make these different high and low sounds.
Second grade: We have started to begin to explore Beethoven. Each morning we read a chapter from a child friendly book about him. We will be doing more next week on Beethoven, covering composed songs and his life.
Third Grade: We will finish testing on white belt first degree today. After they have mastered the first degree white belt, they should start to practice their first degree yellow belts (sheets given to them during class). Books handed out last week will be a vital importance to their learning during music class. Please make sure they are bringing their recorder booklet each time they come to music class!
Fourth grade: We are getting ready for our field trip on November 12th. Field trip permission slips are due on October 31st with the transportation fee. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns about the transportation fee. We are covering composers such as Aaron Copland, Leonard Bernstein and Dvorak as well as understanding the order of an orchestra.
Fifth grade: We will be starting a new project called the "conductor cup challenge" which will challenge students to create their own music by using solo cups. They will incorporate dynamics and texture into their project. The end result will be a recorder classroom performance in their groups.
We are singing Halloween songs as well as learning about Julia Ward Howe ("Battle Hymn of the Republic")this week.
