Kindergarten:
We are starting to wrap up "Peter and the Wolf" and are starting to focus our attention on beat. We are learning "Over the River and Through the Woods" and playing the drums with a steady beat. We also have a pretend river on the floor for a few students at a time to jump over to the beat played by the other students.
First Grade: We are discussing high and low pitch. Students looked at " Turkey Gobbler" and pointed out the high and low notes. They also played a listening game to determine which pitch was high and low. Hopefully, they enjoyed hearing my flute playing during class also to determine if I was playing low notes or high notes.
* For both first grade and second grade, we are learning a new song about snowflakes with movements.
Second Grade:
Ludwig Van Beethoven is a very popular man in our classroom this month! We have been reading about him, writing about him and of course, singing about him! We are wrapping up "Beethoven Lives Upstairs" and are singing some seasonal songs about winter and the holidays coming up! We will also be having talent day in our second grade classes in music next week.
Third Grade:
Third graders are continuing their understanding of music and form. They should all be practicing for their second belt (first degree, yellow belt "Let's Play A"). We are also singing seasonal songs "(Winter Wonderland", "Let it Snow"," Jingle Bell Rock", etc.)
Fourth Graders:
We are starting a unit on Mozart. Students have had time in a computer lab and will be working in groups to make a play about Mozart and his life. Students will be able to make small props and scenes for their plays and will perform them in class! While they are writing their plays for the next few weeks, they will also be tested on their 2nd degree white belts.
Fifth Grade:
We are in the middle of a "Conductor Cup Challenge" unit where students are playing different rhythms and textures together. Students are asked to remember dynamic markings in their performances and will be recorded. If you would like to inquire about the assignment, please email or call me!
