Hello Parents! It has been quite a busy first three weeks! I want to thank you for anyone who has returned the classdojo sheets as well as third grade parents who have sent in their student's recorder order if they plan to order one. Everyone at Bingham Farms Elementary has been stupendous and it truly has been like another family here.
Kindergarten: We are finishing up sound stories and singing a song about rain! They are learning names of some of the rhythm instruments and are analyzing what objects make which kind of sounds. I've asked them to think about all of the sounds that they wake up to in the morning (alarm, brushing teeth, sizzling of breakfast, etc).
First Grade: They all should know a little bit about "Hawaiian Rainbows" and know how to hula! We used music icons to analyze the pitches that went up and down. Here is the song, if you would like to hear it!

Second Grade: Second graders are also analyzing sound, but have partnered up with a buddy and are writing their own sound story themselves! They will be performing these in class!
Third Grade: We are reviewing what RONDO means-its form, and dancing to "La Raspa." We are also creating our own Rondo forms on instruments with partners!
Fourth Grade: We are exploring four part rounds! Ask them what a Kookabura is and what kind of sound it makes!
Fifth Grade: We just started an ostinati unit. They are working in groups to create and compose their own ostinati with instruments!
Upper elementary students have seen this website, http://http:www.incredibox.com which is a fun way for students to create a small masterpiece of their own.
